Manual Handling

Who is this course for?thumb_manual_handling

This course is to benefit anyone who has to carry out any manual handling activities  at work by introducing them to the hazards of manual handling, the risks involved and the controls that are available to help prevent injury.

Course Content:

This course runs for 4.5 hours and the modules are:

  • Define 'manual handling operations'. The human and financial consequences of poor manual handling, RIDDOR and the responsibilities legislation imposes on employers and employees.
  • Recognise the importance of correct posture and other factors which promote safe manual handling. Inappropriate activities which may cause injuries when carrying out manual handling and the correct handling techniques for lifting (avoiding postural stress).
  • Plan and use safe manual handling techniques. Prepare to handle and move the object, plan the operation, prepare the area, refer to any risk assessment documentation and select and wear personal protective equipment if appropriate. Lift, carry and set down using approved good practice when working alone and carry and set down using approved good practice when working as a team.

Assessment and certification

This course contains one multiple choice examination. Successful learners wil receive an accredited certificate.

What are the benefits of this programme?

This course in addition will teach learners techniques to lift, carry, push and pull objects safely within their individual capabilities, with the aim of reducing the number of work related injuries associated with manual handling.
